    A former Warsaw resident was recently presented with an award from the U.S. Coast Guard in honor of his rescue of a 4-year-old girl.

Michael J. Maher is the recipient of the Lt. Robert A. Perchard Memorial Trophy. According to G.P. O'Brien, commanding officer of Air Station Chicago, Glen View, Ill., the award is presented to "the crewman who demonstrates superior performance, leadership and professionalism."

    Two-year-old Darwin Lee Hurd rescued his three-week-old sister, Mary Loretta, from a fire last night in an apartment building on Willow Lane, Warsaw.

The fire, which began near the baby's crib, was climbing up the wall near the baby when the 2-year-old grabbed the baby and carried her away from the flames.

    Patricia Ann Baughman and Barbara Anne Longenecker, Leesburg, were among 97 students who received their caps at the semi-annual capping exercises in the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in the hospital's White Cross service center.

It was the largest freshman class of recent years.

    Postmaster P.M. Bridenthrall, Leesburg, loaned his radio set to the Leesburg High School, where the students listened to the inaugural address by President Coolidge. They report clear reception, without any noise at all.
