The Sixth Grade District winner in the DAR essay contest was Angela Ryman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ryman, and a pupil at Madison School in Warsaw. Nancy Shoemaker, representing the Agnes Pruyn Chapter of the DAR presented her with the award. Madison School had approximately 50 entries based on the topic "Travel In The Original 13 Colonies." Angela's winning essay was written in diary form.
Dale R. Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glee Long, Warsaw, has been promoted to corporal in Korea where he serves with an engineering construction battalion as an electric generator operator.
Byron Spitler of Akron, and two friends, in accordance with a bet made in the recent basketball tournament in Fulton County, started Thursday morning to walk from Akron to Mishawaka to see the regional basketball tournament. All the way, while there and coming back, they must beg their meals and lodging. They passed through Mentone at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
