    PIERCETON - Earl Hill, of Pierceton, a World War II veteran, was recently awarded a Silver Star and a special lapel pin for the U.S. Army.

Hill was awarded the Silver Star in lieu of five bronze stars, a bronze service star, an arrow head and a glider badge, which he should have received 48 years earlier. Hill received the awards for his heroic action on July 7, 1944, near Ste. Mere Eglise, France, shortly after D-Day in Normandy.

    Ann Brause, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Dorsey Brause, Rt. 2, Warsaw, will present a piano recital at the Free Methodist Church, Winona Lake, March 10 at 7 p.m.

Ann is a candidate for the Master of Music degree at the Indiana University School of Music. She has studied piano with Kathryn Parker, Juilliard School of Music, Jorge Bolet, Indiana University School of Music, Dr. William Phemister, Wheaton College, and Karen Shaw, Indiana University School of Music.

    Four new members were received into the Sunshine Home Demonstration Club, held at the home of Mrs. J.C. Widman, in Washington Township. They are Mrs. Ervin Bolt, Mrs. Lewis Poling, Mrs. Ralph Baumgartner and Mrs. Benjamin Mellinger.

    Wilda Rose Mellencamp, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mellencamp, Warsaw, has been declared winner of the Kosciusko County contest in which pupils of seventh and eighth grade schools competed on the subject of "How to Prevent Fires in the Community." The contest was sponsored by the Indiana fire marshal's office.
