A bulldog belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bates, Warsaw, was responsible for saving the life of John Carter, 72, at midnight last night when his 23-room house, northeast of Columbia City, burned to the ground.

His daughter-in-law is the sister of Mrs. Frank Bates and has been seriously ill at the Bates home here for several weeks.
