    Lincoln School Pack 3767 had its annual Pinewood Derby Race. Winners are Tiger Cubs: Eric Wilka, first; Jake Broadhead, second; Kyle Munsch, third; Wolf: Ben Broadhead, first; Joshua Geberin, second; Todd Shumaker, third; Bears: Kerry Slusher, first; Ryan Munsch, second; Joe Clark, third; Webelos: John Johnson, first; Dustin Snyder, second; James Brown, third.

March 4 1979

    The first Northern Indiana Christian Athletic League all-conference basketball team was chosen and Lakeland Christian Academy's junior Larry Sumpter garnered first team honors.

LCA sophomore John Pfeifer was named to the second team and Cougar senior Brent Byers and junior Marvin Miller got votes for honorable mention.

March 4 1954

    Abe Hoogenboom, Mentone High School basketball coach, promised his players that he would walk from Warsaw to Mentone if they won the sectional tournament. The boys came through so Abe kept his promise. Carrying a basketball and in company of Floyd Rule and Max Friesner, Coach Hoogenboom began his 12-mile hike from the Warsaw city limits at approximately 1:30. He reached Mentone more than three hours later, tired but happy. Some of the players drove alongside in a car and provided Abe with nourishment every few miles.

    Floyd Kirkendall won the prize offered Saturday at the Central Shoe Store to the person guessing nearest the correct total score of the basketball tournament. He hit the mark with exactly 579.

He received a pair of shoes.
