    Samantha Wideman tossed in 17 points to lead the Mentone 7th-grade girls basketball team to a 30-24 victory over Edgewood Wednesday.

Wideman also snared eight rebounds and grabbed six steals as Mentone improved to 7-2 on the season.

    United Telephone Co. has installed the 25,000th telephone in its Warsaw District. The telephone company's district manager, George Scott, announced that the 25,000th instrument went into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Wrobel at Valley Springs, Rt. 7, Warsaw. United's service representative, Julie Ford, took the order for the installation, and Jim Egolf was in charge of the physical installation.

    John Greiger, owner of Greiger's grocery store, is retiring after 45 years in the grocery business. Greiger, with his son, Harry, has operated the present Greiger's market here in Syracuse for the past 28 years.

March 4 1928

    Letha Sutherlin of Funk's Pharmacy won the first prize of $25 in cash offered by Schlosser Brothers Ice Cream Co. from a field of 240 competitors. The fountains of the 240 were judged according to the cleanest and neatest and the personal appearance of the soda dispenser. Sutherlin was the only one among the 240 to qualify for this prize.
