A North Webster phone customer recently made a hasty exit from a phone booth that would have made Superman envious. The unidentified caller was making a call in a booth near a North Webster service station when a fuel truck obstructed the phone wires and tipped over the booth's supporting cement slab and the booth itself.
At the close of the annual Optimist Club Oratorical contest, held in the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, trophies were awarded to three girls and three boys. Winners in the girls division were: Gina Barrett, first place; Brenda Gregory, second; and Gyongyi Bardos, third. Winners in the boys division were: Robert Lowry, first place; Brad Bartol, second; and Brian Scott, third.
Levi Deisch, one of Nappanee's oldest citizens, is observing his 90th birthday. Deisch was born in Marshall County, but has lived in the Nappanee community since he was 13 years of age.
A set of incisors, canines, bicuspids and molars, complete upper and lower berths for each are at The Times office seeking an owner. Some weird tale probably attaches their loss.
