    Navy Fireman Recruit Ray Roberts, son of Dick and Sandy Roberts, North Webster, recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, homeported in San Diego.

The 1990 graduate of Wawasee High School, Syracuse, joined the Navy in August 1992.

March 31 1978

    Mike Pfefferkorn, 14, a Warsaw Middle School eighth grader, correctly spelled "chorus" to win the 1978 Kosciusko County Spelling Bee title. Andy Camp, 10, a Washington School fifth grader and winner of the elementary spelling contest, was his opponent in the final round of competition.

    A Burket housewife nosed out two other contestants in last week's regional basketball tournament contest to win a new Arvin radio from Durbin Brothers, Warsaw.

Although all three women guessed the correct number of times, 155, that WRSW announcer Bill Long spoke the word, "Arvin," Mrs. Denzel Nelson registered her count at 10:13 a.m. on Monday morning.
