March 29 1996

    Terry Armstrong, Warsaw, won the best of show award for his watercolor painting "Teryn", a young girl sitting on a driftwood branch, in the Five-County Art Show at Wabash's Honeywell Center.

Seventy artists submitted 230 entries in the 1996 show. Other local winners are: Barb Fuson, Syracuse, third and honorable mention; Laura Hill, North Webster, second; Bev Garner, Warsaw, honorable mention.

March 29 1981

    A 10-pound, 37-inch northern pike believed to be the largest caught in this area this year was landed Saturday by David Bornes, 736 W. Market St. Bornes caught the beauty with a split back Repalla on a private pond in Warsaw.


50 Years Ago

March 29 1956

    Chauncey Mollenhour was awarded a plaque from the Indiana Department of Conservation and the Indiana Advisory Council for being the outstanding worker in conservation clubs in Indiana.

Also honored was Ped Koening, of Etna Green, who was the first president of the club. He has held this office for the past 23 years. His successor will be Jene Lindsey, of Etna Green.

75 Years Ago

March 29 1931

    Leroy Norris, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Norris, of Fulton County, a graduate of the Talma High School and now a freshman at Purdue University, has been given special honorable mention in the military department along with 15 other boys. This group of boys gave the Purdue Zouave Platoon, a drill consisting of fancy formations and manual of arms, at the 11th annual military carnival at Purdue University, held March 20, at the Purdue Armory.
