    A team of scholars from NorthWood High School in Nappanee took first place in its division in the 12th annual Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science.

The competition took place at Tri-State University, Angola. For division five, NorthWood team members were Mark Cripe, Susan Dieterlen, Roy Hill, Brent Hochstetler, Amy Krider, Bob Metzger and David Yoder. Sandy Korenstra was the coach.

    Timothy C. Hoffert, of 1310 West Winona Ave., Warsaw, has been accepted for membership in the United States Collegiate Wind Band, a highly selective musical organization which will make a concert tour of seven European countries next July and August.

Hoffert's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Russell C. Hoffert. Hoffert plays the clarinet in the Warsaw Community High School Band, conducted by Philip Eherenman.

March 29 1951

    William Ulmer, of Route 3, is the inventor of a new method for designing thermo plastic sheeting by vibrational waves of light. On March 6, 1951, Ulmer was issued a patient covering his new process. Present processes for designing plastic sheeting are topping, embossing and press polishing. These entail two separate operations. With the new process it can be designed as it is being manufactured, using only one process.

    The 40-some summer cottagers at Chapman Lake may enjoy the coming summer hot evenings reading their Daily Times by aid of electric lights. The summer colony there has been dependent upon oil lamps heretofore but Lewis Rice and Son, of Warsaw, are proposing to purchase a large electric generating plant and furnish the summer resorters with electric current power. The project meets with full approval of all the resorters.
