    Sheila Whitaker has been named a national award winner in English by the United States Achievement Academy.

Whitaker is the daughter of Rick and Becky Whitaker and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hackworth, Claypool, and Judy Lease, Warsaw.

    A North Manchester girl recently won second place in the state Knights of Columbus free throw tournament.

Twelve-year-old Lori Barney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Barney, North Manchester, hit 16 of 25 free tosses to finish in the runner-up spot for her age group at state competition in Batesville.

    Irene Ervin was elected president of the Eagles Auxiliary at a meeting of 50 members at the lodge home. Ervin succeeds Mrs. Kenneth Priser.

Other officers elected were: Mrs. Welcome Yockey, vice president; Mrs. Gerald Bowman, chaplain; Mrs. Ralph Fox, secretary; Mrs. Carl Chapman, treasurer; Mrs. Thurlow Thompson, conductress; Mrs. Walter Danielson, inside guard; Mrs. Dessie Ralston, outside guard; Mrs. Everett Leedy, Mrs. K. Fred Weick and Mrs. Edward Leedy, trustees.

    Francis Bowser and Everett Anglin are taking part in the mid-west bridge tournament at Indianapolis. Tournament play lasting several days will be completed Saturday night. This is the second year for this pair at the tournament where bridge players from all middle western states are co-operating.
