    Two students from Atwood Elementary were recently recognized for their art in state poster contests. Matt Carter received first place for his entry in the National Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals Earth Day Poster Contest, while Russel Albert was second in the Hook's Poison Prevention Week Poster Contest.

March 24 1978

    John L. Pinkerton, Warsaw, ended a career of more than 30 years with Northern Indiana Public Service Co. on April 1.

Pinkerton, who was an electric crew supervisor in the Warsaw district, came to NIPSCO in 1948 as an apprentice lineman. He later advanced to lineman and foreman.

    A.I. Nelson, president of the First National Bank, and Mrs. Nelson, who reside in Mentone, left for New York City, where they will board the big new liner, S.S. America, sailing for Le Havre, France.

With their son and daughter-in-law, Cpl. and Mrs. Robert Nelson, they will tour Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, England and Norway.

    The oratorical contest that was held at the school house on Tuesday evening was a success in attendance, and the winners were: first, Evelyn Parker; second, Ralph Garvin; third, Zeta Clink.
