    Mariah Weaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Weaver, Warsaw, received a Gold Key Award in the Northern District Scholastic Art competition held recently in South Bend.

Weaver's winning entry was an acrylic still life painting titled "Stars and Stripes Forever." She is a senior at Tippecanoe Valley High School, Mentone, and plans to attend Ball State University.

    Two Whitko High School students took first place in their categories at the sectional speech tournament at Columbia City Saturday. Lolly Dugins and Dave Yarnell, along with other students who placed, will compete in the regional tournament Saturday at Fort Wayne.

    Ernest Schimming, whose wife, Mildred, and son, Alvin Lee, 3, south of Warsaw, is en route to Japan aboard the USS Mt. Baker, an ammunition supply ship. He expects to be away two years.

March 24 1928

    Beryl Murphy, Warsaw, very delightfully entertained the basketball girls of Atwood High School at a six o'clock dinner Thursday evening. Following the dinner the guests enjoyed a show at the Centennial Theater. The guests were Devota Hoffer, Ruth Decker, Virginia Sensibaugh, Mamie Fifer, Zelda Burt, Marguerite Hildenbrand, Amy Klinger, Vera Pinkerton, Kathryn Miner and the coach, Mrs. Chambers.
