March 22 1996

    The Warsaw Tiger boys' track and field squad competed in the Penn High School Indoor Quad Meet on Saturday.

David Fribley had the best performance at the meet by smashing the shot put record. Fribley threw the shot a distance of 55-1-1/2 to top the 1971 record of 53-9-1/2, held by LaPorte's Bill Konowitz.

March 22 1981

    Whitko 5-11 senior guard Brett Patrick was named honorable mention to the state all-academic basketball team by the state coaches association.

The senior guard, son of coach Bill Patrick, averaged 6.8 points a game and was the assists leader - setting a school single season record - for the 21-3 Wildcats.

March 22 1956

    Mike Evans, Ted Easterday and Clark Graf were honored at a South Whitley High School athletic banquet last week.

Evans and Easterday were presented trophies by Coach Charles Beck for being voted the outstanding basketball players. Graf received a trophy from George Humbarger, baseball coach, for being the outstanding baseball player on the high school squad.

March 22 1931

    Matie Gatke, of Winona Lake, won the gold medal oratorical contest held at the Christian Church in this city. Four high school pupils, Frances Ritter, Sarah Jane VanDyke, George Hatfield and Gatke, took part in the contest, which was sponsored by the local WCTU.
