Members of the County Police Department are a courteous group and willing listeners to a variety of calls. Sometimes the calls turn out to be a little bit amusing.

A telephone call was received from an area northeast of Warsaw that a boy had seen a lion in the woods. The conservation officer was called and checked it out, but no trace of a lion could be found. A second call was made by a farmer reporting that 16 head of cattle had been stolen from his farm last night. Before an officer was able to visit the farm to investigate, the farmer called again and said that the cattle were not stolen. The heavy fog early this morning prevented the farmer from seeing the cattle at the far end of the field.

A hen at the Harold Yarger farm north on road 15 has done it again, producing a huge egg weighing six-ounces and measuring 2-1/8 inches in diameter and 3-3/8 inches long. An average hen egg would probably tip the scales at about two ounces, just one-third the weight of this monstrosity. A previous egg turned out by this hen, a New Hampshire Red, had a double and a full-fledged egg complete with shell inside the outer shell.
