Area students got a taste of the army when a U.S. Army Blackhawk Helicopter, regularly based at Fort Campbell, Ky., was on display at Tippecanoe Valley High School. Army officials visited the school to educate students about qualifications and benefits of joining the warrant officer flight training program.
Warsaw Freshman High School student, Sheree Taylor, who competed in the biological sciences category of the Senior Division Regional Science Fair recently at Notre Dame University, South Bend, won first place in competition with senior students of this region.
Rowena Surguy, Wilma Howard and Max Shideler, students of the Warsaw Senior High School, Mrs. Petrie, instructor of speech, and Shirley Wolfe and Dennis Runyan, students of the Warsaw Junior High School, were special guests of honor at the formal session of the Warsaw American Legion post. Surguy won the county oratorical contest and placed a close second in the district oratorical contest sponsored by the Legion. She gave her winning oration on the subject: "The American Bill of Rights" to the 92 members present. In appreciation for the excellent work done on this oration, the members voted to award her a United States savings bond.
With roads near Wooster, five miles east of Warsaw, under water and those in the southeast part of this county with axle deep mud, travel over the main highways in Kosciusko County was reported almost impossible.
