One cow lost its life near Sidney last week because it looked too much like another cow. Grover Rhoades, a farmer, called the North Manchester Fertilizer Co. by telephone and said he had a sick cow that he wanted the company to get. He added that he might be gone that afternoon but that it would be all right to get the animal. Esta Martin went to the Rhoades place and saw a cow in the barn that he thought was the sick one Rhoades was taking about. He killed the cow and hauled the carcass to the fertilizer plant. A little later Rhoades called Oren Grandstaff, owner of the fertilizer company, and said Martin had killed the wrong cow, that the cow that was sick was in the barn lot instead of in the barn. A second trip was made and the sick cow killed, but it did not bring the other cow back to life.
