    In a marathon session Linda Perry, 13, won the Kosciusko County seventh- and eighth-grade spelling bee with the word "onerous" in the 251st round. Linda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Perry, Milford.

March 19 1951

    Michigan State's basketball squad at East Lansing, Mich., voted Jim Snodgrass, of Pierceton, its most valuable player and candidate for the silver basketball offered each year by The Chicago Tribune. Jim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clari Snodgrass, of Pierceton.

Snodgrass, a senior, was captain of the team.

March 19 1926

    Adam Weick, the proprietor of a local second-hand store, bought an old sofa from a home where seven daughters have been courted in the parlor. Taking it apart he found 147 hairpins, three mustache combs, 46 buttons, 13 needles, eight cigarettes, five photographs, 217 pins, some grains of coffee, six pocket knives, 15 poker chips, a vial of headache tablets, 34 lumps of chewing gum, nine toothpicks, four buttonhooks and a diamond ring.
