    Terry Runkle of Warsaw, a sales representative at Rice Ford Lincoln Mercury, has earned the salesman of the year award for 1988. To qualify for the honor he sold the greatest volume of new and used cars and light duty trucks last year. Runkle accepted the sales position in January 1988.

March 17 1974

    Three Warsaw youngsters spent one Sunday afternoon waving at passing cars to conduct their own little poll on the friendliness of motorists.

Sherri Canary and Carolyn Jordan, both sixth graders, and Cindy Jordan, an eighth grader, stood on a hill along the U.S. 30 bypass close to their Fox Farm Road homes. They reported that of 259 cars that passed their vantage point, 97 of the drivers did not acknowledge their hand waving, 112 waved back and 50 honked their horns.

March 17 1949

    Mac Holland, who not long ago moved from Warsaw back to his hometown, North Manchester, catches bass hereabouts even in March's coldest weather, casting a red and white small daredevil bait. Last Saturday, Holland, casting from shore at Twin Lakes, 8 miles east of North Manchester, landed six nice black bass; each weighing a pound to a pound and one-half.

    Dr. O.H. Richer, city health officer, addressed the high school students here this morning, relating his experiences and observations during the late war in which he was with the U.S. troops in Siberia.
