Wawasee High School girls gymnastics team won its own sectional and is scheduled to participate in the regional. Team members are Angela Kistler, Nikki Marsh, Diane Karst, Lisa Wright, Karen Butt and Barb Signorelli. Coaches are Nika Prather and Tracy Sumpter.
Fred Powell, Clunette, has been named to the board of directors of the Peoples State Bank, Leesburg. A graduate of Atwood High School, Powell also attended Purdue University. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, and for the past 18 years has been engaged in farming. He and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of three children, John, Julie and Becky.
L.D. Mock, North Webster, advises us that on the morning of March 2, he would have become wide awake abruptly even if the mercury hadn't been down to 2 above. He went to the basement at 6 a.m. to fix the fire and came upon a 34-inch blue racer snake coiled upon the floor. Although the reptile seemed pretty underfed, it had plenty of fight.
A cyclone of small proportions swept a farming section north and east of Claypool late this afternoon, wrecking chicken houses, damaging barns and doing great damage, according to first meager reports which came into the Claypool telephone central. Phone lines were tangled so that the Claypool operator could not call or learn any direct information. From the Orr Farm was heard the statement that "we are in terrible shape."
