    A Ball State University graduate has been hired to fill a county office that has been vacant since October.

Tanya Ford, 23, began her duties as assistant planner for the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission May 13. She replaced Daniel R. Trenary, who resigned in August to become executive director of Columbia City's Chamber of Commerce.

    Craig W. Tidball, employed by Edward D. Jones and Co., was recognized for his outstanding achievements in sales and service to his clients during 1980 at a special three-day meeting held in St. Louis, Mo. Presenting the award was John Bachmann, managing partner of the firm.

    Three Kosciusko County boys will graduate in June from prep schools outside the county.

Carl Richard Tuttle II and Michael R. Williams will graduate from Culver Military Academy in June exercises, and Gary E. Niemann will graduate from Concordia Lutheran High School, Fort Wayne.

June 8 1931

    Ben Phillipson accidentally took his annual bath when he fell out of his boat at Winona Lake at the Bodkin pier on the Winona side of the lake. A wave tossed the boat against the pier while Phillipson was standing up. He executed a perfect but involuntary backward swan dive into the chilly waters. His checkered wool suit did not shrink a bit.
