Ross T. Hartzell placed first in economics competition at the 45th annual Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in April.
Hartzell will compete in the national competition in Anaheim, Calif., July 6-9. He is the son of Ruth Hartzell, Etna Green, and the late Robert Hartzell.

A few weeks back, Tom Metzger made a trip to Marshallville, Ohio, and complained he didn't get much sleep.
But it was well worth his time as Metzger, Rt. 2, Woodlan Hills, won the National Bench Rest Shooter's Assn. "Super Shoot," sponsored by the Firearms Industry of America and in the process took home "somewhere between $1,100 and $1,200 prize money" (he wasn't sure exactly how much).

Anita Garman was the winner of the amateur contest held at the Clay Township Farm Bureau meeting at the Claypool school.
Garman played "Emaline" and "Sheik of Araby" as clarinet solos. Marjorie Drudge was second with a piano solo and Neva Beigh was third with an oration, "Faith."

Franklin Cole, of Winona Lake, by being graduated with the highest grades given any boy in the senior class of the Warsaw High School this year, has been presented with a $1,000 insurance policy by Herschel Leiter, Warsaw insurance agent.
