June 30 1988

    Deputy Sheriff Tony C. Baugher and Deputy Sheriff Joe R. Mooney of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department will be among 78 officers who will graduate from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at 1 p.m. on Friday. The academy is one-half mile southwest of Plainfield.

June 30 1973

    James Heaton Sr., 90-year-old member of the Winona Lake Presbyterian Church, will be the honorary chairman for the special meeting of the congregation Sunday when the group meets in the Rainbow Room at the Westminster Hotel, now know as International Fellowship House. It was in this room that the congregation began services on July 1, 1913.

June 30 1948

    Gene Kegg and Gill Harris, firemen, complained they got "stiff as Frankenstein" from breezy rides on the rear end of the fire truck. They said their wet clothes froze on the way back to the station after fighting fires.

Fire Chief Clarence Frank solved the problem by placing a removable windshield on the rear end of the truck to protect his men.

June 30 1923

    Four nude bathers taken into custody by chief of Police C.W. Douglass, were before Mayor John Sloane here on Monday morning and received severe reprimand.

The bathers could not resist the call of the cool water of Winona Lake outlet near the old Warsaw-Manchester road and on Sunday plunged in "a la September Morn."
