MENTONE - Marcia Ousley received the Dekko Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence at the Tippecanoe Valley High School awards banquet May 23.

Ousley has taught for 25 years. She was nominated for the award by Valley senior Erin Rose, a former student of Ousley's at Burket Elementary School.

Brenda Kachlik and Chad Gallentine are winners of the O'Connell Award at Sacred Heart Elementary School for outstanding performance in both sports and scholarship.

Kachlik is the daughter of Robert and Rita Kachlik, Warsaw, and Gallentine is the son of Richard and Ilene Gallentine, Warsaw.

Max Truex, of Warsaw, outstanding sophomore track star at the University of Southern California, will probably stay in Los Angeles until early in July before returning home for summer vacation in order to try out for a berth with the 1956 U.S. Olympics team.

Max, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Truex, has broken many records, especially in the two-mile run, his favorite event.

A meeting of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity was held on Monday evening. The usual business was transacted and plans were made for a house party to be held in the near future. One candidate, Dale Wright, was elected to membership.
