June 3 1989

    Jerry Nolin, owner of Dairy Queen in Winona Lake, presented a ring to 1989 Warsaw graduate Aaron Bruce for his runner-up placing in the IHSAA state wrestling tournament in the 152-pound weight class. Bruce finished this year 44-1, 122-12 for his high school career, and led the Tigers to seven major championships in the past two years.

    Two students at Milford Junior High School received 1974 Times-Union-WRSW Scholastic Achievement Awards. The awards, medals attached to ribbons in the school colors of blue and gray, were presented by Principal Marion R. Acton.

Receiving the awards were Phillip Stichter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stichter, Rt. 2, Box 86, Milford, for English; and David Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Baker, Rt. 1, Milford, for math.

    Marilyn Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Long, Winona Lake, was awarded first place in the competitive division of news writing at the San Joaquin Valley press conference held recently on the campus at Fresno State College, Fresno, Calif. Long is a student at Coalinga College, Coalinga, Calif.

    John Ruple, who claims to be the horseshoe champion of Leesburg, has been challenged for a game by the West End Club headed by Ott Glant and Warren Powell. John says he is willing to play, but refuses to leave his own dung-hill for the game. John has defeated everything far and near on his own court.
