June 28 1994

    Silver Lake hosted a celebration over the weekend. Shane M. Hovenden, son of Shawn and Stacey Hovenden, Claypool, was the baby photo contest winner; Cassie Smith, 14, the daughter of Craig and Melanie Smith, Claypool, captured the title of Miss Silver Lake 1994; and Tracy Hollar, 13, the daughter of Rick A. Hollar and Denise Cochran, was named first runner-up.

    PIERCETON - Julie Dierks, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myrt Dierks, Pierceton area residents, was named the 1979 Jaycee Fair Queen during the Firemen's Benefit Fair in Pierceton recently.

Cindy Anderson was named the first runner-up, and Karen Harris was chosen as the second runner-up.

June 28 1954

    John Edward Nine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Nine, of North Webster, will be among 20 pages in the United States Senate who will receive a presidential certificate Tuesday afternoon in Washington, D.C., from Vice President Richard Nixon, it was learned today.

The honorary certificates will be presented in recognition of the boys graduating from capital page school.

    The City Council Monday night by unanimous vote let the contract for three bullet-proof vests to the Detective Publish Co. for $300. A.J. Colby, the representative, made a demonstration before the council.
