    Karis Bushen and Matt Bowman have been named the 1993 recipients of the LCA Sixth-Grade Award, according to John Craig, administrator of Lakeland Christian Academy.

Bushen is the daughter of Art and Cindy Bushen, Warsaw, and Bowman is the son of Allen and Bonnie Bowman, Winona Lake.

    Leara Carr, the daughter of Pauline E. Carr, Warsaw, will work as an international cheerleading foundation counselor at Shawnee Missions, Kan., this summer.

She has been a WCHS cheerleader for four years and was captain of the varsity squad this year. Carr has also received the most valuable cheerleader award.

    Pvt. Nevil F. Spicher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Spicher, Nappanee, has completed a five-week air compressor course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He learned to operate and maintain air compressing machinery and pneumatic tools.

    Wilbur Powers, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Powers, on Thursday morning caught three large fish, two pike and one white bass, while fishing on Pike Lake. One of the pike weighed six pounds and altogether the catch weighed 10 pounds.
