    Army Spec. Stephen Hull, son of Harold and Marilyn Hull, South Whitley, has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to those who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army.

June 25 1980

    SYRACUSE - Steve Knispel has been promoted to the rank of patrolman as recommended by Marshall Robert Houser to the town board. Knispel has successfully completed the police academy schooling.


50 Years Ago

June 25 1955

    Larwill Boy Scout Troop 86 won the west district championship in the knot tying skills event at the 24th annual Anthony Wayne council camporee held at the 4-H community grounds at Columbia City.

Only six members of the Larwill troop attended the camporee. They were Ed Myers, patrol leader; Orin Cummins, assistant patrol leader; Paul Johnson, Bill Leffel, Paul Boggs and Dick Walker.

June 25 1930

    The fun and laughter that always accompanies a belling very nearly ended in sorrow and possible death for Mr. and Mrs. Christ Kammerer, a recently married Leesburg couple, when the trailer in which they were being ridden about, became detached from a Ford sedan, driven by Andrew Kammerer and overturned in a ditch. Both received bruises and a few cuts but were not seriously injured.
