    The Warsaw Police Department has been awarded the 1990 Silver Safety Belt Award for outstanding efforts in the promotion and enforcement of Indiana's safety belt laws.

This is the third year in a row that the department has received the recognition. Only 25 departments in the state received the award and only seven departments have received the award three times.

    Dawn Weirick, 10-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Weirick, of 2223 Brookview Drive, Warsaw, was the winner of the $100 gift certificate at Barney's Clothing Store. Dawn received the most votes for her colored picture during a recent coloring contest. Paul Barney, owner of the clothing store, presented the gift certificate to the winner.

    Mrs. Harold Baker, of North Webster, is the newly elected district historian of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Baker is president of the North Webster auxiliary unit, which was the hostess group at the convention of the second district held at the Yellow Banks Hotel at Webster Lake.

June 24 1925

    A four-foot gar fish with a dangerous mouth 10 inches long and armed with needlelike teeth, was caught yesterday at Dewart Lake by H.C. Mackelroy and Carl Haupt, Wabash. The unusual fish was shown at the Times office and caused much comment. A big blue gill fish, much larger apparently than his mouth, was found in its stomach.
