June 22 1994

    SYRACUSE - Wawasee High School has been named an Indiana 2000 school and awarded $23,221 to prove it, principal Nyle Fox and French teacher Beth Hursh, co-chairman of the 2000 committee, announced to the Wawasee Community School Corp. Board. Wawasee High School was one of 25 in the state designated as an Indiana 2000 school.

    Deanna Conley, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Conley, 14 Fairlane Drive, Warsaw, will represent the Warsaw Lakeland Boat Club at the festival events for the summer including the North Webster Mermaid Festival Parade.

She is a junior at Warsaw Community High School and her future plans are to continue her education at Ball State University.

    Carolyn Sue Gagnon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Gagnon, Burket, has been entered as "Miss Burket" in the Queen of the Lakes beauty contest, which will highlight the North Webster Mermaid Festival. Carolyn is 16 years old and stand 5 feet, 3 inches tall. She weighs 118 pounds, has dark brown hair and eyes.

    Merl L. Gochenour, Warsaw attorney, suffered a loss of five purebred cattle, which were struck by lightning. The cattle were grazing on the Gochenour "Lake Farm," near Palestine.
