Scott Duane Whitaker, 1991 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, did not miss a day of school during the entire 13 years of his school career.
Three-year-old J.W. Stookey and Sherry French caught the judges' eyes to take the Cutie King and Queen titles during annual Leesburg Days events. The king's parents are Mr. and Mrs. John R. Stookey, Rt. 2, Leesburg, and parents of the queen are Mr. and Mrs. Joe French, Akron. The young queen's sister, Melissa, was the 1975 Cutie Queen, and the reigning 1975 Cutie King was Jason Rodgers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rodgers.
Max Bolinger, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bolinger, Warsaw, is The Times-Union carrier for subscribers at the south end of Winona Lake. Max, a sixth-grader active in basketball and softball, is a collector by nature. His collections include old money, stamps and tropical fish. He says he does not know what he would like to be when he completes his schooling, but he is sure of one thing - the money he earns carrying The Times-Union "comes in mighty handy."
Johnny Oswalt, former Warsaw pitcher, twirled against the Chicago Union Giants for the Elkhart team, captained by Merrill Scott, former Etna Green ball player. Oswalt went well until the eighth, when he was removed with the score 6 to 3 against Elkhart. Elkhart rallied and won 8 to 7 in the 10th inning.
