    SOUTH WHITLEY - Fire destroyed an apartment building this morning (June 10) and left 10 families homeless.

South Whitley firefighters responded to the fire that broke out about 2 a.m. today at Tavern Heights Apartments.

    Grace Nye, a librarian at the Warsaw Community Library for 21 years, will retire June 10.

Nye spent most of her 21 years being in charge of circulation at the front desk, but she has also done filing, reports and worked at the children's desk for one year.

    Phyllis Mort, 16, has been entered as "Miss Pierceton" in the Queen of the Lakes beauty contest to be held at the North Webster Mermaid Festival June 26. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Mort, Phyllis has just completed her junior year at Pierceton High School. She has light brown hair and blue eyes, is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 107 pounds.

    Asking for a divorce in the same manner as securing a marriage license, an unknown woman this afternoon hurriedly walked up to the window in the county clerk's office, and addressing Aaron A. Rasor, deputy clerk, said: "I want to get a divorce!"

Rasor informed her that divorces are not issued like marriage licenses or fishing licenses and instructed her to see an attorney. The woman was greatly surprised that the clerk didn't have a stock of divorces on the shelf for immediate sale.
