    After devoting more than 30 years of his life to law enforcement, Jerry "J.J." Johnson is retiring.

He was honored Friday with a reception in city council chambers, where he was presented with a glass-enclosed wooden case containing his service revolver and police badges, pins and a patch.

    Marine Private First Class Daniel D. Rink, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rink, Syracuse, was designated Honorman of his training unit during graduation ceremonies at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.

A 1976 graduate of Wawasee High School, he joined the Marine Corps in January 1977.

June 19 1952

    Art Mabie, Syracuse, will receive a $75 trip to the National Junior Vegetable Growers Convention in New York City next Dec. 6-13 for his demonstration on building a tile storage at the annual 4-H Club Round-Up at Purdue University. The award was given by the Indiana Farm Bureau Co-operative Association.

    Mrs. Harry Hodges, Warsaw, was honored at the Women's Relief Corps department convention held in Gary by being elected delegate from the convention to the National WRC Convention. Venus Hathaway was elected department chaplain for next year's convention and Mrs. John Orr acted on the press correspondent committee at this year's convention.
