Brad Gerstner will represent Wawasee High School in the Senate section of Congress at the National Forensics League competition in Nashville, Tenn. Gerstner is the first student on Wawasee's history to qualify for the National Speech and Debate Tournament.
The 30th anniversary of the Unique Bake Shop, 107 S. Buffalo St., is being observed this week. Mrs. Helen Smith operates the business, which features fine pastries and breads. The bake shop was founded in 1929 by Tony Mathia. Mrs. Smith and her husband, Russell, purchased the business June 14, 1943.
"Silent" Rattan, nationally-known wrestler, of Warsaw, will overwork himself the week of the North Webster Mermaid Festival by appearing against the toughest competition in the country. Tuesday's meet will be with Eddie Williams, Thursday's meet will be with Gil LaCrosse and Saturday night will get rough with Rattan and Eddie Williams against Gil LaCrosse and Jim Spencer.
Henry T. Kline, of this city, has received an offer of $85,000 for his metal fence patent from the Industrial Promotion Co., New York. He has not yet accepted the offer pending consideration of other promotion plans, which do not include outright sale of the patent.
