    MENTONE - 1994 has been declared "The Year of Larry Bell" by the Mentone Town Council.

The Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum and the Mentone Chamber of Commerce, together with the town of Mentone, are recognizing Larry Bell on the anniversary of his 100th birthday.

June 15 1979

    Brad VanKirk and Amy Reed were the winners in the Indiana Optimist Junior World golf qualifying round for boys and girls at the Rozella Ford Golf Club.

VanKirk fired a two-over-par 72, while Reed turned in a 108. Second place in the boys' division went to Mike Wallace with an 81, while Kelli Anderson was runner-up in girls' play with 115.

June 15 1954

    A Mexican cyclist who left Ensenada, Mexico, on May 5 and pedaled his bicycle all the way to Chicago, reaching there on June 2, arrived in Warsaw yesterday evening (June 4) and stayed here overnight before leaving on another leg of his long trip.

Jehova Villa, 21, visited The Times-Union and WRSW newsrooms last night. Villa said he had traveled 3,150 miles on his bicycle for a period of 29 days.

    Sam Lowman who has been local manager of the Bashore Feed Store and Hatchery, has been transferred to the store at Akron, where he will assume his duties as manager June 24. Clyde Hill, former Kosciusko County treasurer, will manage the Warsaw branch.
