    With more than a 100 combined years of service at Farmers State Bank, Forrest Miner, Larry Pyle, Mary Boggs and Freeda Witham have been named grand marshals of the 1992 Mentone Egg Festival parade.

The theme of the parade, "Salute to Business and Industry," honors all businesses in this small town, but the special honoree is Farmers State Bank, Mentone's oldest business.

    NILES, Mich. - Joe Beeson, club professional at the Warsaw Racquet Club, had little trouble in disposing of the opposition at the Niles Tennis Club Open here over the weekend.

Beeson won all four of his matches in straight sets to take first place in the 45-and-over category. He only had seven points scored against him all day.

    Bess Mallers, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Mallers, Warsaw, has been entered in the "Queen of the Lakes" beauty contest to be held in connection with the Mermaid Festival at North Webster, as the choice of the students of Warsaw High School. She is 5 feet 4-1/2 inches tall, weighs 116 pounds and has dark brown hair and brown eyes.

June 14 1927

    Thirty-six of the neighbors of Mrs. Fred Harshbarger southwest of South Whitley plowed and planted 18 acres of corn for her. Mr. Harshbarger died Tuesday afternoon in a Fort Wayne hospital following an operation for appendicitis, and the field of corn was unplanted. There were 86 horses and all the equipment necessary in the field at one time and the work was finished a little after noon.
