For the first time in the history of the Mentone Egg Festival, a group has been named as the grand marshal of the annual parade.

The town's retired volunteer firemen will be at the forefront of the parade. The firemen were chosen because of the theme, "Volunteers Working Together." Of the group, one man, Harry Smythe, has been chosen as the featured grand marshal. At 80, he is the oldest living retired Mentone volunteer fireman.
