June 13 1995

    Becky Bowman, daughter of Allan and Bonnie Bowman, and Adam Turner, son of Dave and Claudia Turner, have been named the 1995 recipients of the LCA Sixth-Grade Award.

This award is presented to the graduating sixth-grade boy and girl who exemplify Christian character, spiritual maturity, dependability, leadership potential and academic achievement at Warsaw Christian School.

June 13 1980

    Al Rhodes will be the new Warsaw Community High school basketball coach.

The five-man search committee and the school board jointly interviewed Rhodes in an executive session. Afterward, acting superintendent Dr. Larry Stinson announced that Rhodes will be recommended to the board at the school board meeting.

June 13 1955

    More than 300 national guardsmen from Warsaw, Fort Wayne, Goshen and Angola will assemble early Saturday afternoon at the county fairgrounds for a weekend of battalion tactical training with rifles, mortar and machine guns under the supervision of Lt. Col. Tom Gilliam, of Fort Wayne, formerly of this community.

The men will arrive by truck about 2 p.m. and set up their tents. The battalion maneuvers are in preparation for summer encampment.

June 13 1930

    Members of the Kiwanis Club today enjoyed an old-fashioned spelling bee. The match was conducted by Professor Chastain and was won by Irvin Van Dyke with Prof. Will Scott of the Indiana Biological Station at Winona second. Both Van Dyke and Scott misspelled the word "jardiniere" and as they were the last two standing the match was allowed to go on. It was during this period of extension that Van Dyke finally won.
