    Stephen Waldeck of Warsaw was one of four Ivy Tech State College North central Region employees who received the Excellence in Education award.

Waldeck was honored with the Excellence in Education award for part-time faculty. He is a computer instructor for the college's business and industry training division. He was honored for his contribution to the growth of the continuing education program at Ivy Tech, Warsaw.

    MENTONE - Christine Rhoades, Silver Lake, captured the first "Miss Kosciusko" title Friday night from a field of nine competitors.

Other finalists were Cindy Thurston, first runner-up, Tracey Simpson, second runner-up, Norma Knoop, third rummer-up and Christie Beck, fourth runner-up.

June 11 1955

    Sandra Ballenger will compete as "Miss Beaver Dam Lake" in the Queen of the Lakes beauty contest at the North Webster Mermaid Festival. Sandra, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ballenger, of Claypool. She weighs 110 pounds, stand 5 feet, 4-1/2 inches tall, has brown hair and brown eyes.

    Ben Huff, who resides near Pierceton, came across a local newspaper clipping from the Warsaw Republican in the early '80s in which some local market prices are given as follows: eggs, 7 cents; corn, 30 cents; butter, 6 cents; oats, 20 cents; honey, 15 cents; chickens, $1.55 per dozen; flax seed; $1.10; potatoes, 25 cents; lard, 6 cents; clover seed, $3.60; timothy seed, $1.50 to $2; wheat, 90 cents.
