Larry D. McDonald completed the Northern Indiana Public Service Company's gas serviceman apprentice program on April 12. He completed the apprentice program in 30 months, six less than the normal length of apprenticeship to qualify as a serviceman. McDonald, who joined NIPSCO in 1960, held various mechanic and welder positions prior to entering the apprenticeship program in 1987.
Everett J. Penn, 64, Rt. 5, Warsaw, was congratulated by C.R. Spence, superintendent of Penn Central Railroad, Fort Wayne Division, as he retired after working 33 years as block operator for the railroad. Penn Central employees presented Penn with a gold watch, but his favorite gift was a hand-painted bed pan with the signatures of more than 50 employees. Penn plans to spend the first year of his retirement traveling extensively throughout the United States.
Douglas Kehler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Kehler, won first place in the monthly amateur contest conducted by the Moose Lodge of Goshen. The dance team of Mary Ann Long and Brook Black placed second.
Emery Druckamiller, Syracuse, student at Indiana University, Bloomington, has been elected captain of the 1926 baseball team. Walter Hall is also a prominent member of the team.
