It's official, Wal-Mart is open. Warsaw Store manager Paul Lehotsky cut the ribbon this morning at the new store on U.S. 30E. During the ceremonies, Lehotsky announced a $1,000 donation to Kosciusko County United Way and a $1,100 donation to Kosciusko County Special Olympics.
During a "mini-500" wheelchair race at Prairie View Rest Home this week, Charlotte Neizer, 73, outran two other contestants and established a record of 56.7 seconds for the race. The "Mini-500" track was 500 feet around the blacktop parking lot at the home. Charlotte wheeled into the winner's circle, where she received the checkered flag and a glass of milk to restore her strength.
Sophomore Dave Burke tied for second in the high jump last Saturday afternoon to become the first Warsaw High School boy to score in the state track and field meet since Dick Dobbins placed fifth in the 100-yard dash in 1946.
A two-year trip around the world in the U.S. Navy ship, West Virginia, will be made by Robert Steinebach, son of J.W. Steinebach, Nappanee, former Warsawan and brother of First Lt. Ralph Steinebach, Warsaw. The young man enlisted in the Navy last fall and has completed radio training and is now third class radio operator. He will sail soon after a visit here with relatives, aboard the ship which takes the U.S. Olympic games athletes to Europe.
