    MENTONE - One of the tallest structures in Kosciusko County - as of May 30 - is a feed mill at Mentone.

Cargill Inc.'s Nutrena Feed Division completed a weeklong concrete pouring job creating the new structure. Including equipment atop the mill, the structure measures 155 feet, passing the Kosciusko County Courthouse by just 3 feet.

    Mary Ellen Hall, Claypool, was chosen Mother of the Year at the annual mother-daughter banquet held at the Packerton Free Will Baptist Church.

Runners-up for the annual honor were Marcia Mullins, America Prater and Bertie Bell.

June 1 1954

    Seven students from Kosciusko County were among the more than 1,300 candidates for degrees who were members of the 1954 graduating class at the annual Purdue University Commencement exercises.

Graduates from Warsaw are Thomas L. Whiteneck, William E. Creighton, Richard L. Sparrow, Wilma Eileen Howard and Curtis F. Broughton; and from Silver Lake, Anita C. Barnett and Robert L. Chappie.

    George Ettinger, 72, of Bourbon, a brother of Ed "Speck" Ettinger, of North Buffalo Street, Warsaw, qualifies as perhaps the oldest long-time reader of the Northern Indianian and Warsaw Daily Times. When we talked over the phone to our old friend today he reminded us that he has been reading this newspaper since he was six years old.
