    Ultra-marathoner Dan Wesolowski and his wife, Anna, displayed the Mistral brand model rim he uses for bicycle racing. The aerodynamic "clincher" bicycle rim is made exclusively at Sun Metal Products Inc., Warsaw.

July 9 1972

    The only girl to enter the greased pole contest during the Syracuse Police and Firemen's Benefit Fair was Kathy Brouwer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Brouwer, Syracuse. The $5 atop the pole was finally nabbed by Todd Whitacre, 12, Columbia City.

July 9 1947

    The first annual Fourth of July homecoming celebration here drew many thousands of Warsaw and Kosciusko County residents to the fairgrounds near Winona Lake Friday for fireworks, contests, races, water-battles, community singing, band music, parading and aircraft maneuvering. The first fireworks display since the war ringed the lake-front arena with an estimated 10,000 people.

    Jet White Groceteria is offering granulated sugar, 100 pounds for $7. Soap, 10 cakes for 48 cents; bluing, bag for 8 cents; shredded wheat, 2 packages for 25 cents; Kellogg's Krumble Bran, 19 cents; and five large rolls of toilet paper for 25 cents.
