    Jason Locke, Carl Loe, Chris Chalfant of Troop 715 and Sam Goodstein of Troop 776 recently received their Eagle Scout rank at the Walnut Creek United Methodist Church.

This honor, which is achieved by less than 1 percent of all scouts, was presented by Congressman John Hiler, a guest speaker for the event.

July 9 1974

    Gary Mohler, Winona Lake, and Mike Foreman, Rt. 7, Warsaw, won the men's tandem division of the Fourth Annual Canoe Race on The Tippecanoe River July 4.

The men's tandem winners of Mohler and Foreman completed the three-and-a-half mile course from Fox Farm Dam to the Tippecanoe River Bridge Park on Old U.S. 30 in 32 minutes.

July 9 1949

    Tom Higgins, of Lake Tippecanoe, was the winner of the recent flag tournament, played at the Tippecanoe Country Club golf course. H.F. Scott, of Mishawaka, was second, and George Franklin, of Warsaw, was third. All three planted their flags on the first extra green.

July 9 1924

    Carl Daugherty, twice before winner of horseshoe tournaments, won the fourth one also, winning from Paul Fawley, winner of last week's tournament, 21-20. The tournament was made exciting by several close games, and the larger number of entries. Winners of the first heats were Bartol, Godfrey, Daugherty and Fawley. Fawley defeated Bartol, Daugherty defeated Godfrey and played Fawley in the finals, defeating him 21-20.
