    Kosciusko County Fair week kicked off at Lakeview Middle School with the coronation of the 4-H king and queen.

Amy Steiner, a 10-year 4-H member who plans to attend the University of Evansville in the fall, was named 4-H queen. Jason Shepherd, nine-year member of 4-H and a senior at Warsaw Community High School, will be king.

July 8 1981

    Ronald D. King, son of Ruth A. Werstler, North Manchester, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of airman first class.

King is a carpentry specialist with the 434th Civil Engineering Squadron at Rhein-Main Air Base, West Germany.

July 8 1956

    The Nappanee American Legion color guard won the 3rd district championship in Elkhart.

The team's leader is Gareth Sechrist. Members are Dean Middaugh, Robert Strang, Bill Hostetter, Aaron Forsythe, Kenneth Culp and George Cleveland.

75 Years Ago

July 8 1931

    Officers waited for a short time this morning in the Warsaw city court as two cases were held up due to the fact that Mayor L.J. Bibler, city judge, was up a tree picking cherries.

When officers telephoned the mayor's home informing him that there was business in court they were informed that "The mayor is picking cherries." The mayor immediately laid aside his cherry pail, went to his office and fined and sentenced the accused who were before him.
