    INDIANAPOLIS - Mark Shirey, a Bourbon resident, brought home a pair of top 15 finishes after competing in the IV World Masters Swimming Championships.

Shirey, competing in the 30-34 age group in the international competition, captured a seventh-place medal in the 200 backstroke event and added a 13th-place performance in the 50 backstroke race.

    The Katydids scored seven times in the first inning, but still needed a five-run fourth inning to come up with a 14-11 win over the Butterflies in Warsaw Girl's Softball action.

Winning pitcher Michelle Sebo struck out 10 while also banging out a triple. She also stole home during the game. Cindy Slater tripled and Bobbie Ford doubled for other Katydid hits.

July 8 1952

    Mrs. Harvey Crabbe, Warsaw, was awarded first prize at the luncheon bridge party given at the Tippecanoe Country Club. Mrs. Ted Musser, Lake Wawasee, had second high score. Mrs. Jesse Mellencamp, Warsaw, and Mrs. Ray Korth, Oswego, won the third and fourth prizes, respectively.

    Nellie Kilian, Winona Lake, took part in a musical given at Nappanee on Friday evening. Kilian presided at the piano, appearing with Catherine Richert, violinist, Mrs. Harvy, vocalist, and Arline Stuckman, cellist.
