    Chris Sanders, son of John and Brenda Sanders, Warsaw, is one of 227 specially-selected high school students nationwide participating in the fifth Joseph Baldwin Academy for Eminent Young Scholars at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. Chris will enter the 10th grade at Warsaw Community High School in the fall.

The Joseph Baldwin Academy is designed to enrich the learning process of young gifted and talented students by challenging them with a college curriculum.

    Marine Cpl. Herbert J. Baldwin Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Baldwin Sr., Rt. 1, Etna Green, recently received the Good Conduct Medal first award at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, N.C. He was cited for his exemplary service during the past three years.

July 5 1949

    Thirty-five neighbors and friends assisted in baling hay at the Herschel Albert farm home, east of Leesburg, Thursday afternoon. With two balers, two elevators and several wagons and tractors, 20 acres of hay were baled and stored in the barn. Albert was injured the week before when he fell from a load of baled hay on the cement floor of the barn.

    Paul Fawley, West Ward senior, won the third Warsaw Boys Club horseshoe tournament, winning from Carl Daugherty, winner of the first two tournaments, 21 to 12. The tournament was held at the pits back of the Wear-U-Well Store, and greater interest was shown in the tournament by the largest numbers of entries and spectators.
