    Larry Foster canned the par-3, 141-yard No. 8 hole at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club in golf action Saturday.

Foster's shot was witnessed by Louis Sfreddo, Murray Rhodes and Mike Keller.

July 27 1979

    Kermit Welty became the first Warsaw resident to win the seven-year-old Pioneer Days Road Race when he toured the two-mile course over city streets in the excellent time of 9:41.8.

Welty finished approximately 50 yards in front of Tim Mylin of Wabash who finished second in 9:52. Phil Treckman, Fort Wayne, was third and Bryan Sponseller, Mentone, was fourth.

    Stover Hire, of Syracuse, placed first in the free-for-all feature race during the boat races, co-sponsored by the Lakeland Festival and the Lakeland Boat Club in conjunction with the Fort Wayne Boat Club, at Center Lake.

    Mrs. Howard Barrick and son Max enjoyed a ride Sunday over Goshen and vicinity with Edwin Voras, of Goshen, in his five-passenger monoplane.
