July 22 1995

    Candace Smythe was sworn in by clerk-treasurer Peg Lawrance as a full-time police officer at North Webster. Smythe, 39, is the daughter of Don Smythe, Mentone. She is a graduate of Mentone High School and served seven years as a dispatcher with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept.

July 22 1980

    The Warsaw K&T Racing Team recently competed in the Indianapolis Go-Kart Nationals, with Kim Cox placing third in the Expert 11 class, driving his Panther X Cart with an Open Corsair engine. Tim Norman was forced out of the 100cc controlled stock class race because of an accident.


50 Years Ago

July 22 1955

    Donald Sand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Sand, of East Smith Street, is now in his fourth week at the Indiana State Police School at Indiana University, Bloomington. Upon completion of the eight-week course, Donald will be eligible to be an appointment on the state police force. Donald is a brother of Warsaw's deputy sheriff, Dick Sand.


75 Years Ago

July 22 1930

    Henry Linn, 80-year-old farmer living west of the Tippecanoe River bridge on road 30, was attracting much attention of passing autoists as well as neighbors when he was cutting his oats with an ancient "cradle." Linn's binder broke down and he was finishing up the field with the cradle and scythe which cuts and lays the grain in nice even rows and which takes considerable skill to operate. Fifty years ago or more the cradle gave way to more modern mechanical harvesting methods.
