    Ashley Hamman, daughter of Gary and Jody Hamman, and a theater student at Ball State University, is performing with the Nettle Creek Players in Hagerstown.

Hamman is the mute in "The Fantasticks," and she will perform in "Nunsense II" and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

July 21 1981

    Despite the stifling heat and humidity and too fast of a pace for the first mile or so, Jeff Shoemaker still figured that he could set a record in the eighth annual Pioneer Days Two-Mile Road Race.

But in becoming a four-time winner of the race, Shoemaker had to settle for tying the course record of 9:32.4, set last year by Kermit Welty.

    Eddie Krebs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Krebs, Warsaw, is the proud possessor of a letter bearing Mamie Doud Eisenhower's signature. It seems that Eddie had an extra invitation for high school commencement after he had addressed those to his friends, so he decided to send one to President and Mrs. Eisenhower. When he received the letter dated July 2, 1956, he was completely overwhelmed to have been fortunate enough to have an answer, with the autograph of Mamie Doud Eisenhower.

    M.L. Manwaring, of Mentone, a student of Indiana University, now on duty at the Advance Course ROTC camp at Camp Knox, Ky., was the victor in a wrestling bout held in the open air arena there last night, defeating Walter Kazanjian, of the University of Kentucky.
